Windshield replacement in Youngsville, NC used to mean a drive down US 1 into Raleigh with a cracked windshield in front of you. It does not have to. Impex Auto Glass brings the glass to the vehicle, in Youngsville, in Franklinton farther up US 1, and across North Raleigh, so the car can stay in your driveway or your work lot while the work is done. Raleigh Autoglass is Impex’s website for this side of Wake County and the towns north of it. This page covers the visit, when a chip can be repaired instead, the camera calibration most newer cars need afterwards, and how the claim usually works.

How a mobile windshield visit works
- The quote. Call or send the form with the vehicle, the VIN and where the damage is. Impex checks the glass against the VIN so the right part is ordered.
- A time and a place. Your home in Youngsville, your workplace, or wherever the car is parked. Tell us if there is a garage or covered space.
- The old glass out. Trim, wipers and any camera or sensor on the glass are removed, then the windshield is cut out of its urethane bond.
- The new glass in. The opening is prepared and the new windshield is set in fresh urethane. Impex puts this at about one hour, plus a short cure.
- Calibration, when needed. On cars with a camera behind the mirror, Impex calibrates it on site immediately after the replacement.
- Drive-away. You are told when the car is safe to drive. Impex says most drivers are back on the road within two hours. Skip the car wash and avoid slamming the doors for 24 hours.

Three short steps: the damage, the vehicle and how to reach you. Impex comes back with a quote and a time for the visit in Youngsville or Franklinton.
What the visit needs from you
A mobile windshield job is done outdoors or in a garage, so a little planning helps it go smoothly. The Auto Glass Safety Council, which publishes the installation standard, says the minimum drive-away time varies with the type and brand of adhesive and the atmospheric conditions at the time. Weather matters to the bond, and that is why a mobile visit can be moved on a day of heavy rain.
- Space around the car. Room to open both front doors fully and to stand at each side of the windshield.
- A firm, fairly level surface. A driveway, a garage floor or a parking space. Soft grass or a steep slope is harder to work on.
- Cover if you have it. A garage or carport keeps rain off the opening while the old glass is out.
- The keys and an empty dash. Clear the dash and the area under the mirror, and remove any toll transponder or dash camera stuck to the glass.
- Time to let it set. Plan not to need the car until you are told it is ready.
Repair or replacement
Not every chip means a new windshield. ROLAGS, the windshield repair standard run by the National Windshield Repair Division, treats stone breaks up to two inches across and single line cracks up to 14 inches long as repairable. Impex says repair may be possible when the damage is small, shallow and away from the edges of the glass, and its rule of thumb for chips is smaller than a quarter. A repair keeps the original windshield and, on a camera car, leaves the camera untouched.
| Damage | Usually |
|---|---|
| A small chip, away from the edges and out of the driver’s view | Repair |
| A short single crack | Often repairable, depending on where it is |
| A crack that reaches the edge of the glass | Replacement |
| Damage right in front of the driver, or in front of the camera | Replacement |
| Several chips or a crack that keeps growing | Replacement |
A chip is worth dealing with quickly. Left alone, a chip can spread into a crack, and a long crack or one that reaches the edge is past repair.

The camera behind the mirror
If your car has lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control, there is very likely a camera mounted to the inside of the windshield behind the mirror. I-CAR, the collision repair training body, lists removing the windshield as one of the events that may require that camera to be aimed again. A new windshield sets the camera at a slightly new angle, and the camera reads the road far ahead, where a small angle becomes a large error.
Impex performs ADAS calibration on site immediately after windshield replacement, and its technicians complete static and dynamic calibrations in one visit. Impex says most calibrations take between 30 minutes and 2 hours. A dynamic calibration is done by driving under set conditions, and US 1 between Youngsville and Raleigh gives the long, marked lanes such a procedure looks for. Read more on ADAS camera calibration, and if your car is a Subaru with EyeSight, see Subaru windshield replacement.
Why the installation matters
A windshield is not just a window. The Auto Glass Safety Council says the windshield and side glass are part of the vehicle’s passenger restraint system and must be installed properly for airbags to deploy safely and effectively, and that the windshield aids in occupant retention. That is why the urethane bond and the drive-away time matter, and why the glass has to be the right part for the vehicle. Impex checks the part by VIN before the visit.
Stones on the roads north of Raleigh
US 1 is the main road between Raleigh and the towns to the north, and like any busy highway it has its share of trucks, work zones and loose stone. North Carolina’s load law, G.S. 20-116(g), requires trucks over 7,500 pounds carrying rock, gravel or stone to keep the load six inches below the walls and securely covered, because loose stone is a road hazard. Stones still come loose from treads and tailgates. If one hits, note the time and place, and get the chip looked at before it spreads.
Insurance for a windshield in Youngsville
In North Carolina a broken windshield is normally a comprehensive claim. The NC Department of Insurance lists breakage of glass among the losses comprehensive coverage pays, less any deductible. North Carolina has no law that waives the deductible for glass, so unless your policy includes full glass coverage, your deductible applies. Under G.S. 58-3-180 you choose who replaces the glass, and your insurer pays the same whichever you choose. A comprehensive glass claim is not an at-fault accident, so it does not add Safe Driver Incentive Plan points, though your insurer may look at how often you claim. Impex works with all major insurance providers.
If the car needs a calibration after the glass, ask your insurer whether it is included in the glass claim. The ADAS calibration cost page explains what moves the price.
Is it legal to drive with a cracked windshield in NC?
North Carolina’s annual safety inspection, under G.S. 20-183.3, checks your windshield wipers, not the glass itself, and the wipers must be in good working order under G.S. 20-127(a). G.S. 20-135 requires safety glass wherever glass is used in the windshield and windows. There is no statute setting a crack size. But a crack in your line of sight is still a safety problem, and a crack in front of the camera affects the systems that rely on it.

Questions people ask
Can the windshield be replaced at my house in Youngsville?
Yes. The service is mobile: Impex comes to your home, your work or wherever the car is parked, as long as there is room around the car and a firm surface. A garage or carport helps on a wet day.
How long does windshield replacement take?
Impex puts the glass at about one hour plus a short cure, and says most drivers are back on the road within two hours. A camera calibration adds time; most take 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Can a chip be repaired instead?
Often, if it is small, shallow and away from the edges. ROLAGS treats stone breaks up to two inches and single cracks up to 14 inches as repairable. The technician decides at the glass.
Do you serve Franklinton too?
Yes. The same mobile service covers Franklinton, Youngsville and North Raleigh.
Will my insurance pay for a new windshield?
Comprehensive coverage normally pays for glass breakage, less your deductible. NC has no zero-deductible glass law, so check whether your policy includes full glass coverage.
